Your Path to Purpose Interview Series - Laura van de Vorst
Hello beautiful soul,
I'm so excited to be back for a second interview !
If you missed the first episode, I give you a small introduction of what this series of interviews is all about. I decided to chat with some inspiring like-minded people about their path to purpose.
Yes the path, because the final destination, the big passion we're looking for that gives purpose to our life, it's just an excuse to live the path! And in this journey there are inevitable moments of transition that are there to teach us something and clarify the direction we're going.
It's exciting , isn't it? But also deeply stressful and destabilizing and sometimes it can feel lonely and confusing, that's why I decided to interview some wonderful inspiring people to let you know that you're not alone and that what you're feeling in this very moment is totally ok.
Today's guest is another gorgeous lady, Laura van de Vorst, a sunny and bubbly dutch living in Hamburg , but I let her introduce herself so you can know more about all her passions ...
First of all tell us a little about who you are.
Hey Alessia, first of all thank you so much for having me! I’m Laura van de Vorst, co-founder of healthcoachfx.com, former business graduate turned holistic nutritionist and hormone balance advocate.
How did you get to where you are now? In particular if you can tell us about a life or career transition that really affected who you are today.
A few years ago, in my mid-twenties, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. On top of that, I was battling adrenal burnout and heavy PMS. It opened a whole floodgate of change in my life. Eventually I found that a certain lifestyle and diet allowed me to balance my hormones, get a hold of my symptoms and improve my quality of life. It’s become my life’s mission to help others do the same and make healthy living and food as medicine as personal and convenient as possible for even the busiest souls.
What were the fears that came up in that moment?
Oh it were all those too-familiar inner critic thoughts… “What will people think when I’m sharing my story?”, “Is my business idea stupid?”, “I don’t know enough yet”, “I first need to do this, this and that, before I can speak up”, “Who am I to say that?”, “What if people hate it?”… and so on.
How did you overcome them?
Consistent practice of mindfulness techniques, daily meditation and working on my spiritual growth. On top of that I believe that gratitude can instantly shift your attention to the now, to feel more present and move your energy from feeling stuck in your head to acting with and from your heart.
What was the biggest lesson you got out of the experience?
That every slap in the face is an opportunity in disguise. You might not see it instantly, but in the greater span of things, it all makes sense and it’s why you came to this life.
What advice would you share to someone going through a similar transition?
Trust your gut feeling. If you feel like your idea and purpose brings you on a higher frequency, like someone is lifting you up, and pure energy and enthusiasm is flowing through your veins, go for it.
Also, build a community, share your ideas, fears and dreams, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Do you have any rituals or routines that support you during times of change?
Yes, I have a morning routine that involves expressing my gratitude, meditation, and envisioning. Also, during the day in stressful times, I try to take deep breaths and bring my attention to the now. Most importantly, I always make sure to nourish my body and move it in different ways that I know will do me good.
What are the things that light you up in life at the moment?
Creation, connection and community. This year has been all about that, and it feels so right.
I’m starting to combine my online business more with offline events, projects and collaborations and it brings a whole new energy to things. There are so many synergies when people come together.
Alone we are rays of sunlight. But together we are the entire sun. You shine brighter when you unite.
I’m also working on a new video course that will help the women in my tribe understand the ebb and flow of their own hormonal cycles and feel empowered on every day of the month to tap into their female power and learn what to do to overcome pains. I’m so passionate about the effect of food and lifestyle on our hormones, I could talk about it all day!
what does living a life on purpose looks like for you today?
Having the outcome of your faith in your own hands. That comes with joy, freedom and fulfilment, but also with responsibility to yourself and your company, days with weights on your shoulders and being self-dependent.
FINALLY, CAN YOU SHARE WHAT'S NEXT INTO YOUR WORK AND HOW PEOPLE CAN GET INVOLVED?
Yes, I actually just launched a course called ‘Female Cycle Superpowers’, which helps you match your foods, exercise and lifestyle to each of the 4 phases of your female cycle for pain-free periods, fabulous fertility & getting your body, energy and libido back.
I’ve long dreamt of helping women tap into their female power no matter what day of the month. This 4-week video course with its workbooks, recipes and symptom tracker with instant food and lifestyle advice does exactly that.
I’m also working on launching a podcast on nutrition & lifestyle for hormone balance and you can already join our open Facebook group here
